Badger Watch & Rescue Dyfed
Badger Watch and Rescue Dyfed was formed in 1994 and is a voluntary organisation. Under its constitution the aims of the group us to encourage understanding and the study and research for the advancement of knowledge of badgers, to promote and advance their welfare protection and conservation, to encourage tolerance and appreciation of and respect of all animal life. The initial aim of the group was to counter badger digging which was wide spread in West Wales, by the monitoring of and protection of badger setts, the groups also provides advice in prosecution cases. The group has now expanded into conservation by working with developers in the planning process and carrying out badger surveys and giving advice on badger conservation. The group provides a 24 hour rescue service for injured badgers with facilities for rest and recuperation at its sanctuaries, before returning badgers to the wild, where possible. The groups is a member of the National Federation of Badger Groups, the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. Campaigning against the killing of badgers as a policy to control Bovine TB in cattle is a major part of the groups campaigning policy which also includes strengthening and maintain badger protection legislation. The group has an elected committee which meets once a month for the day to day running of the group, at which all members are welcome.
