Assembly Members Membership of All Party Group for Animal Welfare is for the 60 Members of the National Assembly for Wales who may send representatives when they are unable to attend. In addition an organisation involved with animal welfare may join as an associate member and there are currently over 40 associate groups which includes some of the major animal welfare bodies in the UK. The overall running of the group is the responsibility of the Chair and the Secretariat. We also have a committee member from each of the four political parties. Animal welfare has wide-spread voting appeal and is of great concern to the general public. Politicians´ mailbags are still dominated with letters on a variety of animal welfare issues. Members of APGAW Wales have the added advantage on receiving concise information on the most topical issues which can help AMs deal more effectively with queries from constituents. We hope that this website will encourage increased and more active involvement by both AMs and associate groups. APGAW Wales aims to hold six meetings and one conference a year and details will be advertised on this website. APGAW Wales welcomes attendance from members and non members alike. We would also be pleased to offer any help we can on an individual basis on particular animal welfare concerns. Please note that APGAW Wales membership is open to all and enquiries can be directed to claire@apgawwales.org Associate Members There are a number of All Party / Cross Party groups operating in the National Assembly for Wales, however APGAW Wales is thought to have been one of the first and has met consistently throughout the last 5 years. All Party Groups cover subjects which have general, cross-party appeal and are formulated as one of many ways to increase influence with regards legislation and government policy. It is also an opportunity for AMs to discuss an issue that is cross departmental or brief and to expand upon that issue in more detail than Committee or plenary time allows. For more information with regards all party groups please see the Assembly website www.wales.gov.uk or the links in the ´About´ section of this website. How to become an associate member APGAW Wales associate membership is open to organisations interested in animal welfare who agree with APGAW’s aims and objectives. While we are committed to being open and welcoming to all interested parties as members, final decisions on membership remains at the discretion of the APGAW officers and all members are bound by the standing orders of the group. If you would like to become a member of APGAW Wales, please contact APGAW Secretariat claire@apgawwales.org. THE DIRECTORY OF ASSOCIATE MEMBERS These are just some of the organisations that are current members of APGAW and have asked to be included on a directory of APGAW members: Please note: These groups are members of APGAW because they are concerned with animal welfare issues. However, APGAW may not endorse all of their policies. APGAW is a diverse cross-party group and includes membership of organisations across the animal welfare spectrum. The provision of a link on this page should not be understood to indicate that all members of APGAW agree on the campaigning aims of these organisations. Furthermore, these sites are not under the control of APGAW and therefore the group cannot be held responsible for their content. If you are a member of APGAW and would like to be included on this directory, please contact APGAW´s Secretariat at claire@apgawwales.org |
